Page Slug Guidelines

#Use Hyphens, Not Underscores

By default - NationBuilder will auto-generate any new pages using underscores (_) - for SEO purposes we recommend instead to use hyphens (-).

The following excerpt from searchenginejournal.com explains why:

Always use hyphens (-) and not underscores (_) because underscores cannot be seen when the URL is published as a bare link.

Here’s an example of how underscores in links are a bad practice:

Underscores are invisible when formatted in a link. This means that users are unable to accurately see what the URL is.

NationBuilder and macrons

Macrons (ā, ē, ī, ō, ū) are an important part of te Reo Māori - unfortunately support for them across the internet and on NationBuilder are not 100%.

When you create a NationBuilder page and the name contains a macron - Nationbuilder will replace it with an underscore (_).

See the example before for the page slug that gets generated automatically when i go to create a page titled "Te Reo Māori" in NationBuilder.

NationBuilder replaces any macron letter (and space) with an underscore.

For better readability and SEO purposes - we recommend that you modify this auto-generated slug - like in the example below.

We recommend adding in an 'a' in place of the underscore that NationBuilder uses in place of the 'ā'.
