Bilingual Functionality
This site is special in that it is actually 2 different NationBuilder Websites within a single NationBuilder Nation:
- Te Taura Whiri i Te Reo Māori
- Te Taura Whiri English
The general idea here is that ideally all pages that exist on the English site have a matching page with a matching page slug on the Māori site.
#Language Toggle
In the top left corner of the site header/nav section you will find the language toggle. The gold background is the active language and the white background is a button. Clicking this language toggle button will redirect the user to the same page slug on the other language's site.
Hiding the Language Toggle
The language toggle should be hidden whenever a matching page slug does not exist on the other site.
Ideally each page gets translated and uploaded to the opposite language's site - however there may be some scenarios where translations cannot be obtained - if for example you post a blog post and do not plan on translating to Māori - you can add page tag hide_language_toggle.
Hidden by default
Language Planning Events are only supported in English only - this is because if we duplicated the events across different language sites - they would be 2 different events that individual users could respond to - to avoid confusion with this and to simplify admin of these events - all Language Planning Events should only be created on the English site.
If a page is an Event type and a child of /language-planning-events - the language toggle is turned off by default.
Bilingual Page/Module Headlines
Nav Folder / Nav Menu Items
By design these folders and pages are intended to show the Māori name above the English name. Within NationBuilder these are represented by the the page headline being in the following format - where the pipe character ( | ) is used as the separator of the two terms.
- MĀORI_NAME | ENGLISH_NAME
