How to Hide a User Profile

Sometimes members of your community may request that their profile no longer appears publicly on the website. NationBuilder provides an easy way to hide profiles from public view and search engine indexing.

This guide covers two ways to hide a user profile:

#🧍 For Users: Hiding Your Own Profile

Any user who has a public profile can log in and choose to unpublish it themselves.

Steps for the user:

  1. Log in to their profile on the website
  2. Go to Edit Profile
  3. Scroll to the privacy settings
  4. Tick the option:
“Don’t publish my profile on the website”
  5. Save changes

🧠 This immediately hides their profile from public view and removes it from directories.

🔒 For Admins: Hiding a Profile via the Control Panel

If a user requests help or cannot log in, an admin can hide their profile manually from the NationBuilder control panel.

Step-by-step:

  1. Log in to the NationBuilder control panel

  2. Click on the “People” tab in the left sidebar

  3. Use the search bar to find the person by name, email, or user ID

  4. Click on the person’s profile record

  5. Navigate to the “Profile” tab

  6. Scroll down to the visibility section and adjust the settings:

    • ✅ Tick “Don’t publish profile on website”
    • ✅ Uncheck “Allow search engines to index my public profile”
  7. Click “Save profile”

🔒 This hides the profile from both the public website and search engine results.
