Control Panel:
The Glossary is a Basic page with a custom alphabetical list of tax terms. Its own headline and Basic page content appear above the glossary controls.
#Page tag
The glossary module is activated by adding this page tag to the Glossary page:
module_glossary
Glossary terms
The terms are stored as published Basic pages nested underneath the Glossary page in NationBuilder. Each term page must also have the page tag:
glossary-term
The module loads all published pages across the site with the glossary-term tag. Nesting the term pages underneath Glossary keeps them together in the Control Panel, but nesting alone does not add a page to the glossary. Similarly, a published page tagged glossary-term elsewhere on the site would also appear.
Term data mappings
- Term name = Basic page headline
- Definition = Basic page content
- Direct-link anchor = Basic page slug
- Optional infographic = the first image attached to the Basic page
Terms are displayed alphabetically by headline and grouped under the first letter of the headline. If an image is attached, it appears as a thumbnail below the definition. Selecting the thumbnail opens the full-size image in a lightbox. Additional images and non-image attachments are not displayed by this module.
The anchor is generated from the term page's slug: underscores become hyphens and the glossary-term- prefix is removed. For example, glossary-term-income becomes #income. Keep term slugs unique and stable because definitions can link directly to another term using these anchors.
Filtering by term name
Visitors can use the Search terms field to filter the glossary by term name. The filter:
- updates as the visitor types, or when they select Search or press Enter;
- matches any part of the term name without regard to letter case or accents;
- searches term headlines only, not definition content;
- hides letter groups that have no matching terms; and
- reports the number of matches or displays a no-results message.
Clearing the search field restores the full glossary.
Jumping to a letter
The A–Z buttons take visitors directly to the matching alphabetical group. Letters with no terms are disabled. Selecting a letter while a search filter is active clears the filter before moving to the selected group.
Scroll to top
A circular Scroll to top button appears in the bottom-right corner after the visitor has scrolled approximately 400 pixels down the page. Selecting it returns the visitor to the top of the page.
