Navbar

The Navbar contains the site logo, main menu, account action and Quick Exit. On smaller screens the main menu is opened with the menu button.

#Edit menu items and order

  1. Open Website > Pages > Top nav.
  2. Add the intended page to top navigation using Include in top nav, or remove it using the same setting.
  3. Reorder the menu items on the Top nav screen.
  4. To make a dropdown, organise its pages beneath the intended menu parent and include those pages in navigation.
  5. Preview the desktop menu and the collapsed mobile menu, then test every changed link.

Top-level labels come from the page's Name, with Headline as a fallback. A name such as Practice | Tikanga displays the two parts on separate lines. Dropdown labels use the child page's Headline.

Dropdowns show one child level. Whether the parent page is also listed inside its dropdown follows the website's parent-in-dropdown setting. A parent with a dropdown opens that menu; ensure visitors have a link to the parent destination if it is needed.

Tag on a top-level menu page Effect
nav_hide Hides that root menu item even if it is in top navigation. Does not make the page private.
target_blank Opens that item in a new tab. On a dropdown parent, it also affects its dropdown links.
site_menu_highlight_1 Applies the first predefined menu highlight treatment.
site_menu_highlight_2 Applies the second predefined treatment.
site_menu_highlight_3 Applies the third predefined treatment.

Use at most one highlight tag and preview it against the approved design. Include in supporter nav is for modules and is separate from the main menu.

Logo and fixed actions

The header uses the website's Social media image as its logo, falling back to the website's name. Check with For Purpose before replacing this shared image because it can also be used as the default social-sharing image. The logo links to the site's root homepage.

The account action is set in the theme:

The Quick Exit action and its Google destination are also set in the theme. They are separate from the normal top-navigation page list. Ask For Purpose to change this behaviour or these fixed labels and destinations.

DEV TODO: Confirm the final homepage, /join, /members, login flow and Quick Exit behaviour after the site split. The temporary development navigation currently links to pages with _weafv slugs.
