Page Fields and Images
#Finding the right field
Open the page in Website > Pages. NationBuilder may group these controls under Settings, Basic, Content, Social media or Files, depending on the page type.
| Control | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Name | The control panel name and the main navigation label. |
| Slug | The page's address and any source:page:SLUG references. Keep it stable after links have been shared. |
| Headline | The visible page or module heading. |
| Basic > Content | The main formatted text, headings, lists and links. |
| Settings > Excerpt | A short text field used differently by different modules; see below. |
| Files / attachments | Uploaded images or documents belonging to this page. |
| Social media image | The image used by cards and social sharing. Uploading a file alone does not set this image. |
| Tags | Instructions to the theme, such as module:hero or style:dark. |
| Include in top nav | Adds a page to the website's main menu. |
| Include in supporter nav | Allows a direct child to appear as a section of a subpage_layout parent. |
The Excerpt field has different jobs
| Where the page is used | What to put in Excerpt |
|---|---|
| A card destination | A short card summary. |
| Hero | Optional short label above the heading, unless an eyebrow:TEXT tag supplies it. |
| Video | The complete YouTube or Vimeo URL, by itself. |
| Image Left, Image Right, Fluid Images or Image Content | A useful description of the image for people using screen readers; otherwise the heading is used. |
| Image Gallery item | A fallback caption when the item's content is empty. The item heading supplies the image description. |
If one page is used in several places, changing its Excerpt can affect all of them. For example, a video URL would also appear as a card summary if that same page were used as a card destination. Use a separate content record when these roles need different text.
Choosing and replacing images
| Module | Where the image comes from |
|---|---|
| Hero | The first attachment, which must be an image. A PDF first in the list prevents a later image being used. |
| Cards | The card destination's Social media image. Tile and icon cards do not display it. |
| Image Columns / Image Rows | The first attachment on each nested item, which must be an image. |
| Image Left / Right, Fluid Images, Image Content, Quote | The first image found among the module's attachments. |
| Image Gallery | First image found on each nested item; falls back to that item's Social media image. |
| Footer logo | An attachment with footer in its filename on the website's designated homepage. |
Upload an image to the page that owns it, rather than to the landing page by default. Preview the result at a narrow mobile width as well as on desktop; wide images may be cropped in hero and fluid layouts. Put essential information in the text as well as the image.
For Image Columns and Image Rows, the current templates do not expose a separate image-description field. Keep the meaning in the adjacent text and ask For Purpose if an image needs its own accessible description.
Text and links
Use the content editor's heading, list and link controls. The module already supplies its main heading, so use lower-level headings within the body. Edit existing formatted buttons in place to retain their appearance; if the editor does not offer the desired button style, ask For Purpose to format it.
After changing a link, open the assembled page and test the destination. A page's address, a card's source and a button's destination are separate settings.
