Images
Images come from three different NationBuilder locations. Choosing the right one matters.
| Use | Image source |
|---|---|
| Basic layouts, team members, logos and testimonials | First image attachment on that Basic page |
| News and Event cards | First image attachment, with Meta image as a fallback |
| Social sharing | Page Meta image, falling back to site defaults |
| Header logo | Site Meta image |
| Footer logo | First homepage attachment with footer in its filename |
#Basic rules
- Upload only the intended component image as the first image attachment.
- Use meaningful filenames; they help administrators identify assets and may be used as fallback text by older components.
- Crop images to the shape shown in the Style Guide before uploading. The theme crops some containers visually, but it cannot improve a poorly chosen focal point.
- Compress large photographs before upload. Prefer modern formats such as WebP when the source workflow supports them.
- Do not put important text inside an image unless the same information is also present as real page text.
Alternative text
Image and page-header layouts use the page excerpt as image alternative text when an excerpt exists; otherwise they use the page headline. Write the excerpt as a concise description of what the image communicates, not a filename or a repetition such as “image of image”.
Team and logo images use the nested page headline, for example a person's or organisation's name. Testimonial carousel images are intentionally decorative and use empty alternative text because the attribution is already present beside them.
News/Event card images should be understandable with the adjacent card title. If a news article's image carries unique information, repeat that information in the article body as well.
